Abstract: | Cultural values of a society as Vietnam emphasis on dependence and family harmony may influence the type of parenting style these parents may choose to adopt. The study was performed with 10 parents from Gia Thinh, a typical rural area of Vietnam to determine the level of parental involvement in adolescent’s decision-making. Results indicated that parents’ participation in children’s choices is influenced by Vietnamese culture in terms of power distance, uncertainty avoidance and collectivism. Furthermore, the research also investigates the degree of the cultural dimension reflecting on parents’ engagement in rural area, which is slightly low power distance, high uncertainty avoidance and collectivism. Moreover, the findings from the study are compared to Hofstede’s score about Vietnam culture to see the differences. |
