Abstract: ABSTRACT Undeniably, jokes play an essential role to facilitate and beautify human’s spiritual life regardless of the diversity of nation, religion, and language. Clearly, translating jokes is more and more necessary in life. Meanwhile, there have not been an adequate number of studies on jokes translation and jokes are often viewed as an element of psychology rather than a genre of translation industry. In other words, joke translation has not been paid appropriate attention by scientific researcher. This current situation encouraged the researcher to carry out the paper named “Strategies Applied by Nguyen Quoc Hung in English – Vietnamese Translating Jokes in Nu cuoi nuoc Anh” with objectives of having a deeper look at joke translation, more specifically strategies applied to translate jokes. The book “Nu cuoi nuoc Anh” is written by Nguyen Quoc Hung is chosen to be the subjects of this study. Besides, survey, interview, and document analysis were utilized as the main research instruments. Nearly a half of the jokes in Nu cuoi nuoc Anh were chosen to be studied and the result showed that faithful translation is the translation method that Nguyen Quoc Hung applied to translate jokes. The result of the study shows that Nguyen Quoc Hung used faithful translation as the constant method to translate jokes. The detailed result is presented clearly in the forth chapter.
