This study is carried out in an attempt to give a deeper insight into “Passing” in ‘The Great Gatsby’ by Francis Scott Fitzgerald. The thesis is divided into three parts with different aspects. The first part- Introduction– provides an overview of the chosen topic, rationale, aims, scope and methods of the study. The second part includes two chapters. Chapter I is devoted to relevant literary theories and a general introduction to the author, the chosen work and some related definitions. In the main part - chapter II, the topic of the study – Passing and Identity issues reflected in the character of Jay Gatsby in ‘The Great Gatsby’ – is analyzed in detail. This chapter looks into various traits of the passing process and identity issues in the chosen work. A short summary as well as the limitations of the study and some suggestions for further research are given in the final part as the conclusion for the whole study.vi
