Tóm tắt: This study has been conducted in order to find out the effects of anxiety on in-class speaking performance of 1st year mainstream English majors at ULIS. In the first place, the questionnaires were employed to study 84 first- year mainstream English students. After that, 3 participants were then invited to enter interviews with the purpose of elaborating on students’ responses in the questionnaires and probing for more details from the students. The description of the methodology employed in this paper was followed by the findings and discussions presented in the fourth chapter. The data was visualized by tables and charts to make the best presentation. Finally, the recommendations for both students and teachers were given for reference. The findings from the study hopefully will benefit not only students and teachers but also researchers who are interested in the same topic.
